A RMSJ Special Visit:
The jumper weekend of the Willowgrove Season Opener concluded moments ago here at Anderson Ranch. It was great to see so many competitors out enjoying the competition hosted by Trish Mrakawa. Trish has spent many years hosting quality show jumping events for the competitors of Alberta, and it is always a pleasure for us to have her host her Spring Welcome at our venue. Keep up the great work Trish!
We were paid a special visit today by Equine Canada's commander and Chief Akaash Maharaj. While out on a business trip, he stopped by our venue to see some of the Willowgrove Season Opener. He also had a chance to visit with some of the riders, getting a feel for the needs of the Alberta competitor. We were pleased to give him a tour of the Rocky Mountain Show Jumping facility, and give him some insight to our growth plans for the future.. He was impressed with the turnout to the Willowgrove event, and assured us that he would be out again to visit during one of our outdoor tournaments when we could show him some of our great Alberta hospitality and of course sunshine!
Thanks for the visit Akaash, and keep your great work as the CEO of Equine Canada.
Bow Valley Classics:
The management of Rocky Mountain Show Jumping would like to remind all of our exhibitors that all of the information pertaining to the upcoming Bow Valley Classic was posted to our website last week. An ALL INCLUSIVE prize list was posted that will cover all of the outdoor tournaments to be held here in 2010 with the exception of the third Rocky Mountain Classic and the Medal Finals, being held in September. Information on these tournaments will be posted later this year.
Please remember that the entries for the Bow Valley Classics will close on Monday April 26th. As our tournaments have grown tremendously over the past number of years, it has become more important for us to get our exhibitors entries in as early as possible so that we may create the stabling charts. The demand for our new permanent stabling is huge, and there are only 288 stalls available so far, until more barns can be built. Remember, that stabling will be awarded to competitors on a first come first serve basis.
To reward exhibitors for doing their entries on time, a $100.00 discount will be awarded to each exhibitor that enters before the closing date. A late fee of $200.00 will be assessed to entries not received on time. We didn't want to charge such a big late fee, however, we have been so accommodating over the years that many exhibitors would wait for weeks past the closing date to enter, creating a lot of chaos for our office and planning staff. We figured that a $300.00 swing in on time or late, for entries would entice our exhibitors to be speedy with their entries. Another special bonus will be given to those exhibitors who take advantage of the online entry option. $10.00 in Rocky Mountain Horseshoes will be awarded to everyone who enters online.
A stabling request form is available on our website, and we ask that Trainers and Stable managers take the time to fill it out and return it to us to ensure their stalls are reserved and all of your clients are stabled together. We've made the form very similar to the Spruce Meadows stabling form to ensure simplicity.

RMSJ Facility Updates:
We wanted to share with our exhibitors some of the changes that have either happened, or are about to happen on the tournament grounds for the upcoming season.
- Two new tournament rings: As we speak, work is continuing on the two new all weather footing rings that were installed south of the Grand Prix and Jumper II Ring last fall. Both rings, one sized at 125'*210' and the other, 180'*300' are being designed with all weather footing from Footing First out of New York State. By adding these two rings, we will be able to facilitate warm up better, and also provide an alternative show ring for our smaller hunter and jumper competitions. Have a look at the work to date!

- Stabling Area: 2009 saw the first use of the 4 barns that hold 288 covered stalls for the comfort of our exhibitors' horses. As we went through the year, we listened to the suggestions of our competitors. Doors have been installed on the north and south ends of each of the barns to help with the wind on those cool days, and giant aesthetically pleasing manure receptacles have been carved out of the birms and paved to help keep the barn area nice and clean. Covered wash racks are in the plans for the future!

- Bob's Diner: With the growth we have experienced over the years, it has become very apparent to us that we need a way to feed all of the people who join us for our tournaments. Also, due to our exhibitors suggestions, a social gathering site on the grounds will be created. Bob's Diner (complete story coming soon) is a stucture that will be converted to a diner, complete with a few tiers of deck overlooking the Grand Prix ring. A little imagination will be needed after looking at the before pictures, but we can ensure you that you will be pleasantly surprised with the finished result, expected later this summer. See Bob's Diner pre the work!

- RMSJ Exhibitors' Lounge: As just one of the new incentives to our competitors, owners and trainers, including an early entry discount, some stabling cost benefits, a consecutive week trainer’s lounge pass, is being introduced specifically designed to service the needs of the busiest people on the grounds. A 1600 square foot tent has been added to the show grounds this year, complete with a solid floor and decorated it in style with some great couches and lounge chairs. We have installed a few big screen TV’s and put in a pool table. A fully licensed bar will be available for everyone’s use after 4pm, and it will be the location of our daily Happy Hours. The lounge will be accessible to everyone who purchases a pass, however, trainers who join us with their students for a series of tournaments (Bow Valley, Mid Summer, or Rocky Mountain Classics) will receive a “Compliments of RMSJ Trainer’s Lounge Pass” valued at over $400.00. Another way to thank you for your support! Every day in the lounge, a hot breakfast from 8-10am, as well as a hot lunch from 12:30-2:30pm will be available with a lounge pass. Of course, free water and juices will also be available along with a fully licensed cash bar. Email us to reserve your BVC Trainer's Pass

- RMSJ Grand Prix Ring Tower: At long last, we are planning construction of an In-Gate tower to the Grand Prix Ring. Plans have been made, and we hope to begin construction very shortly on the centerpiece of the showgrounds. We will send photos as they become available..

2010 RMSJ Coffee Table Book:
By now, you may have already heard that RMSJ has decided to introduce an annual coffee table book to showcase the Equine industry here in Alberta, as well as our tournaments and the people that join us each year. We are very excited about the response we have received thus far on the planned 5000 copies of the 150 page book that will print on April 15th ready for our summer tournament season.
Included in the book will be numerous advertisements that farms, stables, individuals, veterinarians, trucking companies, tack and supply shops, and associations alike that have direct involvement in our sport.
|
The coffee table book wouldn’t work without some good reading, and will include numerous articles about various topics, and interviews with many of the sports’ key personalities. Of course, included in the book will be photos and items that relate to events that are held annually here at Anderson Ranch, but will also include many pages of fun and interesting tidbits about our sport.
At RMSJ, we pride ourselves on being a venue that is accessible to everyone in our industry, so, we believe allowing participation by everyone in our industry is a must. A project like this is a great way for people to showcase their business. We are showcasing 30-40 people from all levels of our sport, which will help insure that the book will be a keepsake for everyone. We plan on showcasing 30-40 different people every year in this annual production.
