Bow Valley Classic II Cancellation:

In the ten years of competition here at Anderson Ranch, the management of Rocky Mountain Show Jumping has never cancelled a tournament. Unfortunately the saying "there is a first time for for everything" came true this week for the second of the Bow Valley Classics.

Everyone knows that we can get some bad weather in Alberta during any given month, but especially in May. On the eve of the first day of competition, Mother Nature decided to pay us a visit, and she liked her visit so much, that she hasn’t left yet.

On the first day of scheduled competition, RMSJ management decided to cancel the tournament as the forecast was horrendous for the balance of the week, and the well being of all of the horses and riders would be in jeopardy. It was a very difficult decision to be made, however, in hindsight; it was the right one, as it is still pouring rain.

All competitors that were scheduled to compete in the Classic will be mailed a letter on Monday detailing the decision that was made, and how it affects their entry.

We had an overwhelming number of competitors who expressed appreciation for our decision, and we would like to thank them for their support of the difficult decision that had to be made.

Mid Summer Classics & the innagural C.S.I.E.

With the Bow Valley Classic in the rear view mirror, attention must now shift to the next tournaments upcoming here at Anderson Ranch.

RMSJ is pleased to announce the Mid Summer Classics scheduled for July 4-6, and July 9-13. The Mid Summer Classics will feature prize money of over $75,000.00

C.S.I.E. (Calgary Show Jumping International Extravaganza)

The Mid Summer Classic II (July 9-13) will be a C.S.I.E. event. As many are aware, an international competition is categorized as a CSI, and one with a Nation's Cup is a CSIO. We at RMSJ decided to put a little twist in the game, and rank our Mid Summer Classic a CSIE.

Some special events to be held at the Mid Summer Classic will include:

  • The $10,000 1.10/1.20/1.30/1.40m Team Cup
  • The $ 5,000 2'6"/2'9"/3'0"/3'3" Team Cup
  • The $25,000 1.10/1.20/1.30/1.40m Full Meal Deal Grand Prix
  • The $10,000 2'6"/2'9"/3'0"/3'3" Horse Sport Grand Prix
  • The $5,000 Blue Valley Farms 1.20m Jr/Am (Carried from BVC II)
  • The $2,500 Bradon Construction 1.10m Jr/Am (Carried from BVC II)

Riders in the Team Cups will make four member teams with one person from each respective height. The event will be a Nation's Cup format with each member competing at his/her respective height of the same course. The top four or five teams (depending on the total number of teams) will come back for a second round to determine the winning team. Should a jump off be required, a height will be drawn, and the rider from each team in that respective height will do battle to determine the winning team.

The Grand Prix's will be open to all competitors from each respective height level, and the competitors will jump the same course at their respective height. In the Jump Off, the lower height jumpers will be given a small handicap in seconds before they cross the timers to counter the time spent in the air and turning factor being much less for a horse jumping little jumps versus those jumping bigger jumps.

The extensive details of these events will be posted in the prize list for the tournament which will be available shortly. We felt that adding events like these would be great for the younger riders in our sport who rarely get the opportunity to participate in these types of events.

Look for details soon, and Best of Luck to all Competitors!
