Heartland:

As many of our readers know, the Canadian produced Family TV Series, Heartland, had a couple of episodes filmed at some local Alberta Farms. Both Blue Valley Farms and Anderson Ranch played host to the crew and cast for this Alberta based family drama. Look for Calgary based riders in the show, Rodney Tulloch from Blue Valley Farms, and RMSJ's own Tani Anderson who played stunt double to Ashley. Tani did all of the jumping as Ashley's double.

The Season Finale aired on CBC last week, and both of these local stables were featured in the episode.

The episodes can be viewed online by going to the CBC website.

RMSJ Winter Training Series Hunter II Completed:

The second of the 2008 RMSJ Winter Training Series Hunter Tournaments concluded last night in a record breaking fashion. 163 horses joined us for the second of three ASJA Three Star Series indoor hunter versions of the 2008 Winter Training Series. We are very pleased that with the new format of the winter tournaments, and that with the increased entries that we are still able to have reasonable days as far clock goes.

Friday played host to the Baby Green Hunter division, and it was great to see about 25 entries for this division, which is much larger than the division has been for many years here in Alberta. Who knows, we might be seeing a comeback of the hunters! In total, 263 hunter rounds were logged in on Friday, along with 5 flat classes. 216 rounds were logged on Saturday with 4 flat classes, and Sunday saw a record 318 rounds along with 9 flat classes. With the exception of yesterday's 7:30pm finish, the days were very pleasant, and finished earlier than scheduled, and we owe this to all to our great competitors. Who could have guessed that we would begin to use the pre-load hunter ring?

To thank everyone for the great weekend, RMSJ handed out 250 bags of free popcorn fresh from Tani's New York street corner style popcorn maker. We also had a draw for four club seats to Tuesday's Flames game versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. Congratulations to our medic Kathy Prather who was the lucky winner.

Bow Valley Classics Travel Bursaries:

Last year for the Bow Valley Classics, the management of RMSJ offered a travel bursary to competitors who travelled from the province of BC and attended both of the Bow Valley Classics. It was appreciated by all of the competitors who attended from our neighboring province. In 2008, we thought we would extent the bursary to more of our competitors, so we came up with the RMSJ travel circle. Should you live outside the circle, and attend both of the Bow Valley Classics, RMSJ will be pleased to offer you a $100.00 bursary. Also, your name will go into a draw, and at the end of the tournaments, RMSJ will draw two names from the bunch. Should your name be one of the lucky ones, your hotel tab will be paid for, courtesy of RMSJ. For more details, click here

Provincial Associations:

In our last newsletter we asked you to vote on the topic below! Numerous votes have been logged so far, but we would like to see if the poll results change with more voters!

The province of Alberta is the only province in the country that has two separate provincial associations in existence to serve the needs of their provincial riders. The Alberta Show Jumping Association (ASJA) and the Alberta Hunter Horse Society were incorporated just four years apart back in the 1980's.

There has been some discussion over the last few years by various parties that the two associations should merge into one greater entity as there seems to be a good amount of overlap because the two are basically serving the same population in the province.

What is your opinion? Visit our poll pages and answer our first 2008 poll.

ASJA 2008 Membership & Calendar:

We thought we would send a note to remind all Alberta competitors to renew their ASJA membership for 2008. As most of you know, the ASJA introduced the Five & Three Star Series in 2007. The series does require a declaration by ASJA members, and there is a box to check on the 2008 membership form. There is also a spot on the membership form for riders to declare for the Alberta Select Riders Program. Please take a few minutes to fill out your 2008 ASJA membership, and send it into the address located on the form.

Remember, all RMSJ tournaments are a part of the ASJA Star Series, and points will not be counted towards the year end championships, unless you are an ASJA member and have declared yourself as a Three or Five Star rider.
